Triple Bill!

Lara Rose is a Dunedin-based singer songwriter. She has established her style of indie-folk, using writing to reflect on aspects of her own experiences. Recently she toured the nation as one half of the folk duo, Tall Folk. In January 2022 they released their debut album ‘Wiser’, recorded at Port Chalmer’s Chick’s Hotel and brought to life by Dunedin’s most talented musicians.

Lara will play a mixture of both songs from the album as well as new material she has been working on, sharing these songs in their raw stripped-back form.

Hyram Ballard grew up with Merle Haggard, George Jones and Buck Owens ringing in his ears while trying to learn to play guitar like Jimi Hendrix and Joni Mitchell. As such his songwriting style sits squarely in the “Americana” genre with forays into jazz, blues and Latin styles. He currently performs solo, as a duo with Leigham Fitzpatrick, with his own band Dr. T and The Dangerous Women as well as playing fretless bass with indie rock band Oille Crooks & The Hermit Crabs and Venezuelan cuatro with Latin/Funk/House band Ed & The Shadowboys. On this occasion he will be playing all his own songs including a few of his hits and maybe a newly penned number or two.

Neville Stewarts’s song ideas, riffs and lyrics flow out of a lifetime love of music. The songs and stories feature well known New Zealand towns and landscapes from favourite destinations including: Okarito West Coast, Tarras Central Otago and New York.

Musical influences as diverse as Gospel, Jazz, the Beatles, Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young inform the musical motifs. Later influences including Talking Heads, Radiohead, Crowded House, PJ Harvey and Ryan Adams developed and reshaped the songs further.
