Secret Serendipity - old and new songs, jazzy and blue songs and some fancy guitar pickin'.
Lindsey Shields and John Meddings bring together a cool blend of classy jazz standards and engaging arrangements of some maybe less familiar songs, along with a few of Lindsey's originals. Coming from quite different musical backgrounds - John being a skilled on-call player for shows and bands and Lindsey a folk singer/songwriter - they create an unexpected combination influenced by elements of jazz, folk, blues and even pop.
A keen traveller and performer, Lindsey has appeared at various festivals and clubs around New Zealand and in the UK, Canada and Australia, and been a member of various bands. With her capacity to fully inhabit songs, her performances feature rich vocals, varied melodies and distinctive guitar style. In her songwriting no topic is off limits with lyrics and chord structures that often slide away from the expected and predictable. She has produced two solo albums: For the Trees and Echoes.
John is a stalwart of the music industry, well known throughout the south as an accomplished player, educator & luthier. As a guitar player for hire he has worked with many of the icons of the industry throughout NZ & Australia. His playing can be heard on a number of albums and TV soundtracks. Still in demand as a backing musician for artists throughout Otago & Southland, John is most often seen playing with his popular Dunedin trio Bare Essentials, or in the pit playing a theatre show.
