Origins - club night

Hi Folks! I’m co-ordinating this club night with the theme "Origins". I’m hoping it will bring out some interesting songs, poems or tunes along with stories from people’s personal family history, ethnicity, country - that sort of thing.

So, to that end, I’d like you to think about your forebears and where in the world they were from - in my case Scotland and the English Midlands - looking beyond just the last generation - and choose two items from or about those places. Alternatively, consider elements of your family history, your ancestors. What kinds of lives did they lead? What work did they do? (e.g my father was a shoe repairer but his father worked and was a union leader in the Midland Railway Locomotive Works; my mother was a nurse in Glasgow but her father was a farmer and her grandfather was a shepherd on a big Scottish estate) and find something you could perform related to these things. The most ordinary of lives have songs and tunes and poems about them. Or possibly it will be a major event - a disaster, an achievement or some momentous occasion - in one of your antecedents’ lives. An old lullaby, a song sung while working, a tune your people danced to, a lament, a ballad …
