Read & Kay Hudson

From Spike Jones to Rodney Crowell, from Lani McIntire to Graham Nash,  from Henry Webster to Lefty Frizell. From 3 chord country (Harlan Howard – 3 chords and the truth) to Bluegrass, from Ragtime to Contemporary.

That’s the musical range that Kay and Read play in. Added to that are Kay’s own songs, written about events from the past, places, characters we’ve met, family and friends (be afraid, you could be in there one day).

Kay plays guitar, tenor guitar, and bass. She’s a self-confessed late starter (when she bought her first guitar, it came with the warning that if she didn’t learn to play it, Read would acquire it), and didn’t begin writing songs until they moved to the South Island West Coast.

Read plays guitar, resonator guitar, lap steel, pedal steel, slide guitar, and mandolin. He grew up on the Coast (there is only one Coast), started in rock ‘n roll, switched to folk music and bluegrass, before a long detour through country music to where he is today.
