She & the Trio Keening
She & The Trio Keening introduced their beautiful, storied sound with the release of their debut album ‘Middle Island’ in 2017. After a hiatus starting families the Trio are excited to return now as parents, and also joined by their long time producer/collaborator/friend, multi-instrumentalist Kaine Harington.
Combining the rich folk, country and bluegrass roots of their home-place Southland, the foursome provide stirring folk ballads that will have you tapping your toe one minute and melting your heart the next. The intricate banjo melodies of Jamie Macdonald and warm bass-lines of Deej Canny-McLeod transport you into the haunted landscapes their songs evoke - from misty plains and valleys, ‘round the mountain, and to the sea. Amongst these vivid conjured scenes, Olivia Canny-McLeod’s stunning vocals carry listeners on journeys that strike deep into the folk spirit of Aotearoa. Emotional depths that are plunged deeper still when the quartet come together with evocative harmonies and converging melodies – at times evoking the collective spirit of a shanty, and other-times the echoed voices of generations past.
