The Young Family

Richard, Gracie & Emily Rose
It’s been a while since this family trio last played at the folk club, and they’re delighted to return.

Gracie, 20, is a University of Otago student studying psychology and sports science. A former junior Gold Guitar winner, she now focuses on guitar and vocals, enjoying the craft of performing and the challenge of developing her own style.

Emily Rose, 18, is in her final year at Queen’s High School and plans to study creative writing. An award-winning songwriter whose originals have gained national recognition, she plays ukulele, guitar, and learning piano, and—like Gracie—has reached the Gold Guitar finals.

Richard grew up in Canada with the sounds of folk music, listening to Gordon Lightfoot, Neil Young, and Joni Mitchell. Today he runs his own consulting business in high-performance sport, but music remains a favourite way to unwind and connect. His tastes range across genres, and he shares with Gracie and Emily Rose a special love for singer songwritersand the joy of playing together.

At home they often play solo pieces, duets, and family sets, finding music a relaxing and almost meditative way to connect. Tonight is a special chance to share those homegrown harmonies and their wide-ranging love of music with the folk-club community once again.
