AGM News

We had our AGM on the 7th with a good turnout of members. We had a bit of a re-shuffle of personnel this year with Lindsey Shields and Mike Dillon leaving and Monica Barkman joining our ranks. Lindsey will still be looking after our website and social media. Bernadette has stepped down from the President role, being replaced by Carole, and Kirk has taken up the Secretary role. Chris remains as our Treasurer. At the meeting we also made formal our decision to officially change the club name to Dunedin Folk Club (previously New Edinburgh Folk Club). This was agreed in principle a few years ago but never made official with the Charities Commission, bank etc. We also recognised her dedicated contributions to the club by awarding a life membership to Keri Smith. Most of you will have enjoyed eating her delicious cakes on Sunday nights and great dinners at the Whare Flat festival as well as listening to her play her sweet songs and her fiddle in the orchestra.

Other News

We have a great line up of events still to come before the end of the year. During this time some of the nights will have a Cash Bar running where you can purchase a range of beers and wines. On these nights you can’t bring your own alcoholic drinks so keep an eye on the newsletter to see when this is happening. Also on the newsletter, check out if there are floor spots available if you’re keen to play a couple of tunes and haven’t been asked for a while. You can contact the club on info@nefc.org.nz if you’d like to play on a particular week or talk to a committee person. Or you can bring your instrument on the night and we’ll try to fit you in even just for 1 song.

Advance notice that we have the wonderful Eric Bogle coming to the club on October 16th. Please note that this will be a ticketed concert for everyone e.g. no door sales that night. Keep a watch for notification of this coming up on the newsletter including how to book. Tickets will be limited so don’t miss out on this last chance to see Eric here in Dunedin.
